Day 1, AM

Route 1 Hetland Hall Hotel to M74 Welcome Break

Departing Hetland Hall Hotel at 10:00, head west on the A75, then turn right onto the B725 towards Dalton. Continue through the village before turning left onto the B723 toward Lockerbie. At Lockerbie, join the A709 and follow it west until it meets the A701. Turn right onto the A701 and enjoy the drive through Dalveen Pass.

Stay on the A701 until you reach the junction with the A74(M), then merge onto the M74 northbound, following signs for Welcome Break services. Here, we’ll pause for a short 15-minute break time to stretch your legs, use the facilities, or grab a quick coffee.

Route 2 Services to Ayrshire Food Hub

Departing from Welcome Break, head south on the A702 and soak in the scenic drive through Mennock Pass. Continue to Mennock Village and turn right onto the A76, followed shortly by another right onto the B740, signposted towards Crawfordjohn.

From there, continue to the B7078, passing through Douglas. Rejoin the A76 heading north, via the A70 and B743. At the crossroads roundabout, take the third exit (right) to arrive at the Food Hub.

Day 1, PM

Route 3: Ayrshire Food Hub to Inveraray

Leaving the Food Hub, we rejoin the A76 north and continue until merging onto the M77, heading through Glasgow. Take Exit 21 to join the M8 westbound, continuing until it transitions onto the A82 passing along Loch Lomond.

Next, follow the A83 and over the iconic Rest and Be Thankful Pass, before descending into Inveraray. Parking is available on the left as you enter the town overlooking Loch Fyne, an ideal spot to take a short break and grab a coffee before continuing the journey.

Route 4: Inveraray to Knipoch House Hotel

Departing Inveraray, follow the A83 south along the shores of Loch Fyne. Upon reaching Lochgilphead, turn right onto the A816 and continue along this scenic coastal route. Expect to arrive at Knipoch House Hotel by 18:00, ready to settle in for the evening after an exhilarating day on the road.

Day 2 AM

Route 5: Knipoch House Hotel to Way Inn.

Departing Knipoch House Hotel, head north on the A816 through Oban, with a petrol stop available at Tesco. Continue on the A85 toward Clifton, then turn left onto the A82 Our first stop is a 20-minute coffee break at The Way Inn, Kingshouse. with views of the Glencoe mountains.

Route 6: Way Inn to Mallaig Ferry Port

Leaving The Way Inn by 10:40, continue on the A82 through the Glencoe mountains. Pass through Fort William and join the A830 toward Mallaig, following the scenic Road to the Isles.

On arrival in Mallaig, head to the ferry terminal with time to spare before check-in closes at 12:55. Grab lunch at The Bakehouse or one of the local fish and chip spots. If time’s tight, there’ll be refreshments available on board too.

Route 7: Armadale to Eilean Donan Castle

Departing Armadale, we take the A851 north, winding through the rugged beauty of the Isle of Skye. Upon reaching Broadford, we join the A87, following the road east toward Kyle of Lochalsh. Crossing the iconic Skye Bridge, we continue along the A87 until we arrive at Eilean Donan Castle.

Here, we take a short stop and admire the views over the castle before continuing our journey.

Route 8: Eilean Donan Castle to Clansman, Loch Ness

Leaving Eilean Donan Castle, follow the A87 along Loch Duich, heading east through the Highlands. Continue toward Loch Ness, where we’ll stop at the Clansman Hotel for a break by the water.

Route 9: Clansman to Golf View Hotel

Leaving the Clansman Hotel, we continue along the A82, tracing the shores of Loch Ness before heading east toward Inverness. From here, we join the A96, following the road through until we arrive at the Golf View Hotel—our home for the next two nights.

Day 3 AM

Route 10: Golf View Hotel & Spa to Kinlochewe

We’ll meet in the lobby at 08:45 for a 09:00 departure. Leaving Golf View Hotel & Spa in Nairn, we head west through Inverness and follow the A835 past Garve. From there, we join the A832 toward Kinlochewe for a brief 15-minute stop at the service station. Limited parking is available, with extra spaces and public toilets nearby on Slioch Terrace.

Route 11: Kinlochewe to Ullapool

Leave Kinlochewe on the A832, heading northwest. Follow the road past Loch Maree, continuing through Gairloch, where coastal views begin to open. Stay on the A832 as it winds through Poolewe and Aultbea, offering glimpses of rugged Highland scenery.

After passing through Dundonnell, take the A835 north to Ullapool. Our lunch reservation awaits at the Ceilidh Place from 12:30 to 14:00, just a short walk from nearby parking.

Day 3 PM

Route 12: Ullapool to Kylesku Bridge 

Leave Ullapool on the A835, heading north through Highlands. At Ledmore Junction, turn onto the A837. follow it until it joins the A894. Continue along this route toward Kylesku Bridge, where we’ll take a short stop to appreciate the surrounding views and stretch our legs before moving on.

Route 13: Kylesku Bridge to The Pier

Leaving Kylesku Bridge, continue north on the A894 through the Highlands. Pass through Scourie before reaching Laxford Bridge, where you’ll join the A838.

Turn right onto the A838, a quieter and more remote route through the northwest. This stretch includes single-track sections with passing places. Keeping a sensible distance from other vehicles helps everyone move smoothly.

Follow the A838 as it winds past lochs and open moorland, eventually merging into the A839 toward Lairg. Stop for a 15-minute coffee break at The Pier before continuing your journey.

Route 14: The Pier, Lairg to Golf View Hotel, Nairn

Leaving The Pier in Lairg, follow the A839 east, passing through rolling Highland scenery. The road connects with the A836, heading south over Bonar Bridge.

Continue on the A836, passing through Tain, then join the A9, following the coastline towards Inverness and take the opportunity to refuel there, ready for the next day. From Inverness, join the A96 east through Nairn, arriving back at the Golf View Hotel for a familiar and relaxing stay—no need to check in again, just settle in and enjoy the evening.

Day 4 AM

Route 15: Golf View Hotel to Lecht Ski Centre.

Leaving Golf View Hotel, take the A96 west. At Dava Junction, bear right onto the A939 south—the start of the Old Military Roads crossing the Cairngorms National Park. If needed, stop at the Esso on Spey Avenue to refuel before rejoining the A939. Continue through Tomintoul and over Lecht Pass to Lecht Ski Centre, where we’ll pause for 15 minutes before continuing.

Route 16: Lecht Ski Centre to Glenshee Ski Centre

Leaving Lecht Ski Centre, head south on the A939 through the Cairngorms. Watch for the right turn signed toward Braemar to stay on the A939 as it winds through forested roads. At the end of the road, turn right onto the A93 and pass through Braemar. Continue along the A93 to our lunch stop at Tea @ Glenshee.

Day 4 PM:

Route 17: Glenshee Ski Centre to Queensferry

Leaving Glenshee Ski Centre, take the A93 south through Perthshire, joining the A90 toward Perth. Continue onto the M9 and cross the Forth. After the bridge, take Exit 1A and turn left at the first set of traffic lights. Follow the road into South Queensferry, where both roadside parking and a car park are available along the waterfront.

For those staying in Edinburgh, this marks our farewell point—please remember to return any loaned equipment before departing.

Route 18: Queensferry to Glen Café.

From South Queensferry, stop at the Tesco petrol station to refuel before taking the B800 onto the M8. Follow the Edinburgh bypass (A720) around the city, then join the A7 south through the Borders. Turn left onto the B710 toward Clovenfords, then continue on the A707 and A708 to Glen Café at St Mary’s Loch for a short break.

Route 19: Glen Café to Annandale Water Services.

Departing the café, rejoin the A708 and continue through the Borders before joining the A74(M). Head south to Annandale Water Services—our final stop.
