Provided as a quick-access alternative to our printed event program, this digital guide breaks each day into morning and afternoon routes for ease of use. Each section includes full details of the route, a map, and Google Maps links.
Route 1 Hetland Hall Hotel to M74 Welcome Break (1 Hour – 50 Miles)
Departing Hetland Hall Hotel at 10:00, we loop around Dumfries, joining the A76 and continuing north. At Carronbridge, we turn right onto the A702, Dalveen Pass.
Stay on the A702 until you reach the junction with the A74(M), then merge onto the M74 northbound, following signs for Welcome Break services. Here, we’ll pause for a short 15-minute break, time to stretch your legs, use the facilities, or grab a quick coffee.
Route 2 Services to Heron Farm Shop & Kitchen (2 Hours – 95 Miles)
Departing from Welcome Break, head south on the B797, enjoying the sweeping run through Mennock Pass. Continue into Mennock Village and turn right onto the A76, followed shortly after by another right onto the B740, signposted for Crawfordjohn.
Follow the B740 until it meets the B7078, where you’ll turn left, then take another left onto the A70, passing through Douglas. Continue along the A70 through Muirkirk, then at the traffic lights turn right onto the B743.
Remain on the B743 all the way into Strathaven, where the road meets the A71. Turn left at the end of the road and follow the A71 for approximately three miles before taking the right‑hand turn signposted for Heron Farm Shop & Kitchen.
Route 3: Heron Farm Shop & Kitchen to Rest & Be Thankful Viewpoint (1 ¾ Hours – 85 Miles)
Leaving the farm shop we head east on the A71 join the M74 to pass through Glasgow and M8 westbound briefly before taking Exit 30 onto the M898. Continue as the road transitions onto the A82, following the shoreline of Loch Lomond with sweeping views across the water.
Stay on the A82 all the way to Tarbet, where the route curves around the head of the loch and becomes the A83. From here, the road begins its steady climb into the hills, opening out into one of Scotland’s most dramatic stretches.
Follow the A83 over the iconic Rest and Be Thankful Pass, arriving at the viewpoint for our scheduled stop. here we will take 15 minute break.
Route 4: Viewpoint to Knipoch House Hotel (1 ¼ Hours – 55 Miles)
Leaving the Rest & Be Thankful Viewpoint, continue west on the A83, descending into the glen and passing through Inveraray. Follow the road south along the shores of Loch Fyne, enjoying the sweeping coastal views as the route opens out.
Continue on the A83 until you reach Lochgilphead, then turn right onto the A816. This scenic coastal road carries you north through rolling woodland and sea loch inlets.
Stay on the A816 all the way towards Oban, arriving at Knipoch House Hotel around 17:30, ready to settle in for the evening after an exhilarating day on the road.
Route 5: Knipoch House Hotel to Glencoe Mountain Resort (1 ½ hours )
We’ll meet in the lobby at 08:45 for a 09:00 departure. Leaving the Knipoch House Hotel, head north on the A816 through Oban, we suggest stopping here for petrol available at Tesco. Continue on the A85 toward Clifton, then turn left onto the A82 Our first stop is a 15-minute coffee break at the Glencoe Mountain Resort.
Route 6: Glencoe Mountain Resort to Mallaig Ferry Port (1 ¾ hours)
Leaving The Mountain Resort by 11:15, continue on the A82 through the Glencoe mountains. Pass through Fort William and join the A830 toward Mallaig, following the scenic Road to the Isles.
On arrival in Mallaig, head to the ferry terminal with time to spare before check-in closes at 13:40. Grab lunch at The Bakehouse or one of the local fish and chip spots. If time’s tight, there’ll be light refreshments available on board too. The crossing itself takes 30 minutes.
Route 7: Mallaig to Ralia Cafe
For Route 7, we’ll now run from Mallaig to Ralia Café with a fantastic revised section.
After reaching Mallaig, we’ll head back along the Road to the Isles — a brilliant stretch of road with sweeping views and great flow all the way towards Fort William. From there, we continue north on the A82, then at Spean Bridge we take the A86, tracing the River Spean and passing alongside Loch Laggan.
We continue through Newtonmore and follow the National Route 7 straight through to Ralia Café for our stop.
It’s a stunning alternative and keeps the day moving beautifully.
Here, we take a 30-minute stop.
Route 8: Ralia Cafe to Golf View Hotel
From Ralia Café, we continue north on the A9 before turning onto the B9152 — a fantastic, quieter stretch of road that runs parallel to the A9. This gives us a beautifully flowing drive, passing Loch Insh and Alvie with great scenery throughout.
We then continue on to the forest‑lined B9007, a brilliant run through the trees with great rhythm and character as we make our way towards the hotel. It’s a strong, engaging section to close out the day.
We finish the run at the Golf View Hotel, rounding off the route in style.
Route 9:
Route 9 will not be used on this tour.
Route 10: Golf View Hotel & Spa to Kinlochewe (1 ½ Hours – 65 Miles)
We’ll meet in the lobby at 08:45 for a 09:00 departure. Leaving Golf View Hotel & Spa in Nairn, we head west through Inverness and follow the A835 past Garve. From there, we join the A832 toward Kinlochewe for a brief 15-minute stop at the service station. Limited parking is available, with extra spaces and public toilets nearby on Slioch Terrace.
Route 11: Kinlochewe to Ullapool (1 ¾ Hours – 75 Miles)
Leave Kinlochewe on the A832, heading northwest. Follow the road past Loch Maree, continuing through Gairloch, where coastal views begin to open. Stay on the A832 as it winds through Poolewe and Aultbea, offering glimpses of rugged Highland scenery.
After passing through Dundonnell, take the A835 north to Ullapool. Our lunch reservation awaits at the Ceilidh Place from 12:30 to 14:00, just a short walk from nearby parking.
Route 12: Ullapool to Kylesku Bridge (45 minutes – 35 Miles)
Leaving Ullapool at 14:00 on the A835, heading north through Highlands. At Ledmore Junction, turn onto the A837. follow it until the right hand turning on to the A894. Continue along this route to Kylesku Bridge, where we’ll take a 15-minute stop to appreciate the surrounding views and stretch our legs before moving on.
Route 13: Kylesku Bridge to Café of the Raven (1 Hour 45 Miles)
Departing Kylesku Bridge, we head south along the stunning open roads, continuing along the A894. At the end of the road, turn left onto the A837, then right at Ledmore Junction onto the A835. Continue past Ullapool to the café, where we’ll take a 15‑minute break.
Route 14: Café of the Raven to Golf View Hotel, Nairn (1 ¼ Hours – 65 Miles)
From the Café we turn back on to the A835 and head towards Inverness. Take the opportunity to refuel there, ready for the next day. From Inverness, join the A96 east through Nairn, arriving back at 17:30 to the Golf View Hotel for a familiar and relaxing stay—no need to check in again, just settle in and enjoy the evening.
Route 15: Golf View Hotel to Goodbrand & Ross Tea Rooms (1 ¼ Hours – 50 Miles)
Leaving the Golf View Hotel at 09:15, head west on the A96. At Dava Junction, bear right onto the A939 south, joining the start of the Old Military Roads as they cross the Cairngorms National Park.
If needed, take a brief stop at the Esso on Spey Avenue to refuel before rejoining the A939. Continue south through Tomintoul, following the road as it climbs past the Ski Centre and across the high plateau.
Stay on the A939 until you reach the Tea Rooms, where we’ll pause for 20 minutes before continuing the route.
Route 16: Goodbrand & Ross Tea Rooms to Glenshee Ski Centre (1 Hour – 40 Miles)
Leaving the Tea Rooms, head south on the A939 as the road carries you through the Cairngorms. Watch for the right turn signed for Braemar to remain on the A939, following the forested stretch as it winds across the hillside.
At the end of the A939, turn right onto the A93 and continue through Braemar, passing through the village centre before the road opens out once again. Stay on the A93 as it climbs towards Glenshee, bringing you to our lunch stop at Tea @ Glenshee.
Please note: parking is free for a maximum of 1 hour.
Route 17: Glenshee Ski Centre to Aberfeldy Distillery (1 ½ Hours – 75 Miles)
Depart Glenshee Ski Centre heading south on the A93, following the road as it descends through the glen. Continue until you reach the junction for the B950, where you turn right towards Kirkmichael.
Stay on the B950 as it winds through the countryside, then join the A924 towards Pitlochry. Pass through Pitlochry and continue until you reach the slip road for the A9.
Join the A9 southbound for one junction only, then exit onto the A827 towards Aberfeldy. Follow the A827 along the river into the town, then continue to Aberfeldy Distillery, where we will stop for 30 minutes before continuing the route.
Route 18: Aberfeldy Distillery to Dalmahoy closing event (2 Hours – 75 Miles)
Depart Aberfeldy Distillery heading south on the A826, following the road as it climbs out of the valley. Continue onto the A822, enjoying the sweeping open sections as the route carries you towards Muthill.
After passing through Muthill, take the left turn onto the A823. Stay on this road as it crosses the moorland plateau and passes Knockhill Raceway on your right. Continue straight until you reach the junction for the M90.
Join the M90 towards Edinburgh, crossing the Forth Bridge with panoramic views across the estuary. Stay on the motorway until it merges into the M9, then take Exit 1 and follow the signs towards Dalmahoy.
Continue along the approach road to reach our final stop.
