Whether you’re heading out on a spirited driving tour or a quiet countryside escape, one thing remains constant: your car needs to be ready. At Route GT, we believe that preparation isn’t just about packing the right jacket or choosing the perfect playlist—it starts under the bonnet.
Here’s why a few simple checks can make all the difference.
The Five-Minute Ritual That Can Save Your Driving Tour
Before departure, we ask every guest to run through a few essential checks. These aren’t just for peace of mind—they’re part of what keeps the tour smooth, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.
✅ Tyres
Check pressures and tread depth. Underinflated tyres affect handling and fuel efficiency, while worn tread compromises grip—especially on wet or winding roads. The legal minimum is 1.6mm, but we recommend 3mm for optimal performance.
✅ Oil & Coolant
Pop the bonnet and check fluid levels. Low oil can lead to engine damage, and insufficient coolant risks overheating. Top up if needed, and look out for any leaks or unusual smells.
✅ Brakes & Lights
Test your brake response and confirm all lights—headlights, indicators, brake lights—are working. These are critical for visibility and safety, especially in convoy driving.
✅ Fuel
Start with a full tank. It’s one less thing to think about on the morning of departure and ensures you’re ready to roll without delay.
✅ Warning Lights
If anything’s flashing or glowing on your dashboard, don’t ignore it. Even minor alerts can point to issues that affect performance or safety.
MOT & Insurance – The Essentials
Every vehicle on the tour must have a valid MOT certificate and be fully insured for road use.
This isn’t just a legal requirement—it’s part of what keeps the group safe and the experience seamless.
If your MOT is due soon, we recommend getting it done ahead of the tour. And if your insurance includes breakdown cover, even better.
Not Sure Where to Start?
You don’t need specialist tools or training. Just a few minutes of attention can prevent delays, breakdowns, or unnecessary stress—not just for you, but for the group as a whole. These checks are simple, but they speak volumes about care, preparation, and respect for the journey ahead.
And if anything feels uncertain, you won’t be alone. We’re always nearby to offer guidance, reassurance, or a second pair of eyes when needed. If something doesn’t feel quite right, we always recommend speaking to a qualified professional—whether it’s your local garage or trusted mechanic—before setting off.
The Route GT Standard
We expect every vehicle to arrive road-ready: safe, serviced, and fit for the journey ahead. That means tyres with grip, fluids topped up, brakes that bite, and no warning lights blinking in the background.
It’s not about perfection—it’s about preparation. A few minutes of care can make all the difference.
Your car will thank you And so will your co-driver.
