01 /// SCOTTISH BORDERS & DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY · IN DEVELOPMENT

THE BORDERS
ROUTE

A new Route GT driving tour is taking shape across southern Scotland — quieter roads, open uplands, border country and the south-west landscape. We are still testing the route, stops and overnight format, so the full detail will come later. The reason for the tour is already clear: this is country made for the drive.

02 /// THE BORDERS ROUTE

FROM THE PENNINES
TO THE GALLOWAY COAST.

The Borders Route starts in the North Pennines and crosses into southern Scotland for a first day through the Scottish Borders, finishing in Peebles. Day two carries the tour west across border country to Dumfries. The final day changes character again, looping through Galloway forest roads and the coastline. The broad route is decided; the exact roads, stops and hotels are still being driven, checked and refined.

01

THREE DIFFERENT DAYS

The tour changes character each day: Pennine moorland and Borders roads, an east-to-west crossing, then forest and coast.

02

BORDER COUNTRY

Southern Scotland gives us quieter roads, open uplands and long linking sections that suit a road-first Route GT tour.

03

A JOURNEY, NOT A LOOP

The first two days keep moving forward, from the North Pennines to Peebles and then across to Dumfries.

04

FOREST & COAST

Day three opens out into Galloway, combining forest country with coastal roads for a different final-day rhythm.

05

TWO OVERNIGHT BASES

Peebles and Dumfries give the tour two distinct overnight stops while keeping the route moving naturally across the region.

06

TESTED BY ROUTE GT

We are still driving the candidate roads, checking timings and selecting the hotels before the final route is signed off.

03 /// WHAT'S INCLUDED

BUILT AROUND THE DRIVE.

The three-day, two-night format is fixed. We are still selecting the two hotels and finalising the precise route, so hotel names, meal arrangements and any additional inclusions will be confirmed before booking opens.

01

TWO NIGHTS ACCOMMODATION

One night in Peebles and one night in Dumfries, with the final hotels currently being selected.

02

THREE HOSTED DRIVING DAYS

A complete three-day Route GT driving programme from the North Pennines through the Borders and into Galloway.

03

TESTED DRIVING ROUTES

Each day will be reconnaissance-tested, timed and refined before the final road book is issued.

04

ROUTE NAVIGATION

Clear Route GT navigation for the final tested route, with the exact delivery format confirmed before the event.

05

DRIVER BRIEFINGS

Pre-drive and daily briefings covering the route, day structure, group procedures and key information.

06

GROUP COMMUNICATIONS

Group communication and on-road coordination appropriate to the final event format.

07

PLANNED ROUTE STOPS

Fuel, comfort and lunch stops built into the driving day, with exact venues still being tested and selected.

08

TOUR INFORMATION

Participant information, route notes, timings and event essentials issued ahead of the tour.

09

ROUTE GT HOST TEAM

Hosted support throughout the tour, from the first briefing in the North Pennines to the final Galloway miles.

04 /// THE JOURNEY

THREE DAYS.
THREE DISTINCT CHARACTERS.

DAY 01
NORTH TO THE BORDERS

NORTH PENNINES → PEEBLES

The tour begins in the North Pennines, using the first miles to settle into the group before crossing into Scotland. From there the route works through the Scottish Borders, mixing open upland roads, valleys and quieter linking sections before arriving in Peebles for the first overnight.

DAY 02
EAST TO WEST

PEEBLES → DUMFRIES

Day two leaves Peebles and heads west through the Borders. The exact road sequence is still being tested, but the intention is a full driving day that keeps the landscape and road character changing as the tour crosses southern Scotland and finishes in Dumfries.

DAY 03
FOREST TO COAST

GALLOWAY LOOP

The final day loops out from Dumfries into Galloway, where the route shifts again into forest country, open rural roads and coastal sections. We are still refining the exact loop, but the aim is a strong final day that feels different from the two days before it and brings the tour back toward the Dumfries area.

05 /// THE ROAD

STILL BEING TESTED.
FOR GOOD REASON.

The broad journey is now defined, but we are deliberately not publishing an exact road list yet. The candidate roads still need to be driven together, timings checked, surfaces assessed and weak sections removed. That final testing is where a promising route becomes a Route GT route.

06 /// TWO NIGHTS / TWO BASES

PEEBLES. DUMFRIES.
HOTELS IN SELECTION.

Night one will be in Peebles and night two in Dumfries. We are currently selecting the hotels, with parking, access, room quality, food and the way each property fits the driving day all part of the decision. The final hotel names and meal arrangements will be confirmed with the full tour release.
